- There are good
language schools in many towns and cities. If no
particular school was recommended to you, consider
where you would like to take your course. Big towns
offer you a wide range of possibilities, but are
often vast and anonymous. In most cases, the living
costs are also higher. Try to find a town which
is not too big and not too small and where you could
imagine spending a few days on holidays.
- Dialects and accents Are you afraid of accents? You will learn the standard
language in every school, but coloured, of course,
with the accent of the region in which the school
is located. You will only be confronted with the
“Queen’s English” or “BBC
English” on television and even that is not
always the case. Consider who you want to (or have
to) speak the language to later. Why not take a
language course where your potential business partners
come from?
No schools teach dialect, but outside of the school
you must expect the people to speak dialect. That
can be charming, but it can also drive you to despair.
